John Bidwell was a proprietor of Hartford and his name is on the Founders Monument. He received a grant of land "by the courtesie of the town" in 1640 on the east side of the road to the mill and a "tan-yard" on an island in the Little River, totaling four acres in all. He was a chimney-viewer in 1655 & 1661 and freed from training in 1670.
He married Sarah Wilcock who died June 15, 1690, daughter of John & Mary Wilcock. He was an early member of the Center Church, but they removed & became members of the Second Church on Feb. 12, 1670.
