SHAFER, DAVID, a son of Lambert, and grandson of Lambert Sr., a Revolutionary soldier, of "Mohawk Dutch" breed, was born March 3, 1802. His father came to Florence about 1810, but went back at the outbreak of the War of 1812. About 1815 he came to Florence again with his family. His wife was Sophia Lamb. He lived in a home, quite a long distance from the road. Lambert Shafer had three sons, John, David and Christopher, and a daughter Nancy, the wife of Richard Brewer, and the mother of the well-known numerous Brewer family.
David Shafer married, April 6, 1828, Hannah Sherarts, daughter of George Sherarts, of Vermillion. In 1848 he bought land and lived on the west side of the road, north of Ray Green's. He died Oct. 24, 1854. His widow married John Haynes, and died April 9, 1877, having been born in 1811.
