Philip Franklin Greer, 81, passed away November 12, 2009, at his home in Burkburnett. Funeral services for Frank will be led by Pastor Don Pellikan 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Burkburnett.

Masonic graveside service will follow in the Burkburnett Cemetery.

Burial will be under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett.

The son of James Philip Greer and Lena Ester Bridges Greer, Frank was born July 11, 1928, in Iowa Park, Texas. He grew up in Iowa Park and Wichita Falls and attended Wichita Falls High School. During WWII, Frank moved with his family to Portsmouth, Virginia, where he graduated from Alexander Park High School. He married Carolyn Boyd in 1947 and has lived in Burkburnett ever since. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and sister, Gwen Kellogg.

Frank worked as a driller in the oil fields of North Texas for twenty-six years. In mid-life, he changed careers and spent twenty-five years as a T-37 Jet engine mechanic and leadman with various contractors at Sheppard Air Force Base. A faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Burkburnett for over 60 years, Frank served as Sunday School teacher for the Men's Bible Class and Kingdom Builders Class. He participated in United Methodist Men's projects, was on many boards and committees of the church, and served as Chairman of Trustees.

Frank was a member of the Burkburnett Masonic Lodge for 59 years. He served as President of AARP Chapter 3024 in Wichita Falls. Frank loved to travel with his family and enjoyed golfing with his friends. He loved to make and share homemade cherry-nut ice cream.

Frank's smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn; his sister, Pauline Johnson of Iowa Park; his daughters, Karen Traylor of Austin, Judy Thornton and husband Tommy of Burkburnett, Donna Norris and husband Lee of Burkburnett: grandchildren, Andrew Carr of Austin, Jennifer Hawkins and husband Gaylon of Burkburnett, Kelly Holzheuser and husband Kyle of Fort Worth, Zac Thornton and wife Cami of Burkburnett, Chris Norris of Longmont, Colorado, Jeff Norris of Denver, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Cooper and Tucker Frank Holzheuser, Brice Thornton, Ceciley, Zach, and Nick Hawkins.

The family will recieve friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett. For those desiring, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Renovation Fund in Burkburnett.
