Elsie Bridenstine Hunt

After her graduation from high school in Barnard, Kansas, Elsie studied instrumental (piano) music at Bethany College Conservatory of Music in Lindsborg, Kansas. She then became a private piano tutor in Salina, Kansas. It was in Salina that she met Willard Hunt, who was a popular mail carrier there.

Elsie and Willard were married on November 23, 1910 at the home of her parents, Mr. & Mrs. J.W. Bridenstine, in Holtville, California. The ceremony was performed by the Reverend F.P.Morgan, pastor of the Methodist Church of Holtville, California. The wedding march was played by the bride's cousin Miss Lena Bridenstine and after the ceremony the bridal party enjoyed a luncheon supervised by Mrs. Ella Bridenstine, the bride's mother.

After their marriage they spent the rest of the year visiting relatives in California, Salt Lake City and Cheyenne, Wyoming and then returned to Salina, Kansas, where they lived for two years. They then moved to Los Angeles, California where they lived until 1921, at which time they moved to Glendale, California where they lived the rest of their lives.

Willard "Cy" Hunt was one of the original carriers out of the independent post office in Glendale and was the first president of the local association of letter carriers. He was first promoted to foreman of carriers and then to Superintendent of Mails in 1926, a position he held until retirement in 1949. "Cy" was president of the Postal supervisors Association of Southern California in 1929 and became State President in 1930. he was a long time member of the Glendale Masonic Lodge and the Elks Lodge, serving as Exalted Ruler in 1942 and 1943.

Mr. Hunt played the B-flat clarinet in the Salina Military Band, in the Los Angeles Letter Carriers' Band, in the Hollywood American Post Legion Band and in the Glendale Elks Band, which won the state championship in 1936. The Hunts were active in church work being members of the Church of the Open Door in Los Angeles and then joined the Glendale Presbyterian Church in 1923.

Willard died on November 18, 1974 and Elsie on February 17, 1977. They are both buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.
