Iver William "Hop" Narragon, Jr., 80, husband of Marlene Mae Dethrow Narragon, died Monday, August 4, 2008.
Born in Riverdale, Mich., he was the son of the late Iver and Edna Strine Narragon Austin.
Mr. Narragon was a retired employee of Barbecue King and worked at L.T.V. Systems at Donaldson Center. He was a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam Conflict. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters, Peggy Chrenshaw and husband, Donnie, of Easley, Donna Barton and husband, Mike, of Anderson, and Patti Narragon-Cole, and husband, Sean Cole, of Taylors; a son, Terry Narragon of Easley; a sister, Myrtle Huffine and husband, Al, of Alma, Mich; five brothers, Don Narragon and wife, Norma, of Alma, Mich., Dale Narragon of Campbell, Calif.; Roger Austin and wife, Nancy, of Grand Rapids, Mich., John Austin of Alma, Mich., and Bob Austin and wife, Carol, of Alma, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his loving dog, Hunter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cancer Society of Greenville County, 113 Mills Ave, Greenville, SC 29605 or the Alzheimers Association, Upstate South Carolina Chapter, 301 University Ridge, Suite 5000, Greenville, SC 29601.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 7, 2008, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will follow in the Downtown Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at their respective homes.
