Distinguished Berwick teacher Born Renee Ursula Terzopolos,April 26, 1937, in Shamokin, Renee passed away unexpectedly on Friday,April 27, 2007, while vacationing in Greece. She was the daughter of the late George and Olga Terzopolos of Shenandoah. She graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1955 and Bloomsburg State Teachers College in 1959, where she received her
degree in elementary education. She was a distinguished teacher of 33 years, recognized nationally in Who's Who in American Teachers, and by the PSTA. She also received numerous other honors for her excellence in her profession.She was active with the First Baptist Church of Berwick,where she taught Sunday school. She was also an active member of the Berwick Retired Teachers Association, Red Hat Ladies Society, Berwick YMCA Silver Sneakers Club,and served as Judge of Elections for many years in the 2nd Ward of Berwick.Her first love was her husband, followed by family events,decorating, traveling and vacationing in Myrtle Beach, S.C.,and Cape May, N.J. She also enjoyed playing cards, dominos,and reading. She actively supported and attended the many sporting events of all her grandchildren and friends and participated in many other school and social functions. Her love of teaching, and impact on children, friends, and colleagues will never be forgotten.She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Larry Perry of Berwick; a sister, Constance Thomas and husband Capt. Richard Thomas (ret. U.S. Navy) of Vienna, Va.; brother,Stanley Terzopolos and wife Karen, Albertis, Pa., and sister in-law Joann Fedorco, Berwick; five children: Wade G. Perry,Berwick; Amber L. Perry-Harmon and husband Thomas,Berwick; Shawn A. Perry, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Deirdra Perry-Corbacio, Berwick; and Jamey R. Perry and wife Katelyn,State College; seven grandchildren: Jason Harmon, Jacob Harmon, Ashley Harmon, Tyler Perry, Michael Corbacio,Marcus Corbacio, and Owen Perry; and nieces and nephews:Scott Thomas, Kim Ziegelbauer, Nicole and Hallie Terzopolos,and John, Charles and Mark Fedorco.Friends will be received Friday, May 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. atthe First Baptist Church of Berwick. Another time for visitation will be at her church from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday,May 5. Her funeral service will begin at noon Saturday with the Rev. James L. Belt officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Lawn Cemetery, Berwick.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Berwick Public Library, Second and Chestnut streets, Berwick, PA 18603.The Kelchner-McMichael Funeral Home Inc. of 119-121 E.Third St., Berwick, is assisting the Perry family with the service arrangements.
