Roy Bowling




Roy Bowling, 98, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 12, 2009 in Burnet, Texas. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Lamar Baptist Church, Wichita Falls, Texas with Jim Montgomery and Rev. Mike Roberson officiating. Private burial will be held Monday, February 16, 2009 in Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.



Roy was born April 16, 1911 in Hazelgreen, Missouri to Thomas K. and Rosa Eveline (Hillhouse) Bowling. Roy, his parents, his brother Emmett and sister Abigail, moved to Wichita Falls from Pulaski, MO in March of 1926. Roy worked for his Uncle Isom Bowling, in his youth, on the farm. He was very industrious and worked a number of different jobs in his life, including; the Waffle and oyster House, Mack Taylor Wholesale Drug, Dad Power's Grocery, Wichita Falls Coca-Cola for 12 years and then Co-owned Sandtrap Service Co. with Joe Rains, until his retirement. He and Pauline Holliman were married February 12, 1933 in Walters, OK. Roy was saved on March 6, 1941 and baptized at Lamar Baptist Church. He was a longtime member and deacon at Lamar, serving as Church Treasurer and Chairman of the Board of Deacons. After moving to Burnet, TX in 2002, to live with his son, he became a member of First Baptist church in 2003. Other activities while living in Wichita Falls included being a member of the Jos. A. Kemp Masonic Lodge # 1287 AF&AM, member of Falls 50, 21 year volunteer for the Hotter-n- Hell Hundred, Assistant Director of AARP North Texas and President of the local AARP. 8 brothers, sisters and grandson; Greg precede him in death.



Roy is survived by his wife; Pauline of the home, 2 Children; Kenneth Bowling and wife Charlotte of Burnet, TX, Allen Wayne Bowling and wife Carol of Willis, TX, 4 grandchildren; Belynda Abbey and husband Mark, Toby, Joey and Chris Bowling and 3 great grandchildren.



In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Youth Group at Lamar Baptist Church in Wichita Falls or the Youth Group of First Baptist Church, PO Box 310, Burnet, TX, 78611.
