From the book, The Fighting Men of Oklahoma: PFC Gaylord Keith Allen, son of Mrs. Ruth E. Allen, was born Dec. 16, 1926 at Byron and attended Byron High School. He was inducted into the service at Ft. Sill in April 1944, receiving his training at Camp Robinson AR and Camp Campbell KY. PFC Allen served 6 months in the ETO taking part in the battles of Munich and LaHauf. He served with the 20th Armored Div., 65th A.I. Bn., Co. B, part of the 1st, 3rd, 7th, 9th and 15th Armies and was last stationed at Camp Hood TX. He was awarded the ETO Campaign Medal, ATO Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Dist. Unit Citation, Army of Occupation Ribbon, Victory Medal and Combat Infantry Badge.
