Orvus Lee Sullenger of Fairfield passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 9, 2009, with his family and pastor by his side.
He was born March 8, 1928, to Cecil and Ora Bell Sullenger in Arpelar, Okla.
Orvus is survived by Viola, his wife of 59 years; daughter and son-in-law Teresa and Larry Williams; son Jeffrey Sullenger and his companion, Carrie Adams; grandson Michael Williams and wife Shelley; grandson Joshua Sullenger and wife Channel; granddaughter Casey Reid and husband Chris; grandson Jacob Sullenger; great-grandchildren Logan Reid, Joshua Sullenger Jr., Sean Williams, Searra Sullenger and Savannah Reid; and sisters Rena Bragg, Totta Burkett and Pat Wakefield. He also leaves behind a large extended family and many dear friends in his church family.
Orvus married Viola, the love of his life, in Sanger on March 30, 1950. On Dec. 7, 1951, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served for four years. He was employed by Chevron and retired after 38 years. He was then head of maintenance at the GeriTowne Mall for 15 years. He was an employee of Fairfield Funeral Home for the last three and a half years.
He accepted the Lord as his personal savior on Jan. 4, 1957, and through the years served his God as Sunday school superintendent, deacon, Royal Ranger commander, choir member (he loved to sing) and had a ministry of helps. He is a man who loved his God, his family and his church.
Viewing will be 9-11 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at First Assembly of God Church, 2207 Union Ave. in Fairfield, followed immediately by a funeral service at 11 a.m. A graveside service will be held at Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery in Dixon after the funeral.
All funeral arrangements are entrusted to Fairfield Funeral Home, 1750 Pennsylvania Ave., Fairfield.
