Hazel Molene Poor was born on June 13, 1916 in Hopkins County, TX to Nuska and Annie Adams Poor. She was the second of six children born to this union. Raised on a farm in the Greenwood community, she attended school at Chautauqua, Round Knob and Saltillo. Hazel married the love of her life, Aubrey Castle, on October 20, 1934. Together they too settled in the Greenwood community where they loved and raised their four children, Jo Ann, Joyce, Jerry and Jack. Aubrey and Hazel eventually left farming as a full time occupation and took public jobs. Hazel worked for the Wells-Lamont glove factory in Mt. Vernon, and later for a dress manufacturer in Winnsboro, before joining the H.D. Lee Co. in Sulphur Springs, where she would retire from her role as a quality control inspector at the age of 62.

Hazel lived most of her life in Hopkins and Franklin Counties, however she and Aubrey moved from their Greenwood farm after retirement to a home in Winnsboro, where they lived until Aubrey's passing. She moved to Mt. Vernon in 1998, and later to the Mt. Vernon House in 2000, where she found new and renewed friendships.

In recent years, Hazel has kept up with the news of the area as an avid reader of the Mt. Vernon Optic Herald, Winnsboro Daily News and Hopkins County Echo. She has been a daily fan of "The Price is Right", "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune"... as well as "Gaither Gospel Hour" and various televised sermons and services. Of course her true joy in life has been her family... between children and grandchildren, she has raised or help raise four generations who deeply treasure their memories of her.

Hazel passed from this life on August 1, 2013 at the age of 97 years and 49 days. She is preceded in death by her parents and all five siblings. Her loving husband Aubrey passed away in 1992, and she lost her devoted son, Jerry, in 2005. She is survived by daughter Jo Ann Agee and husband Louis of Weaver, daughter Joyce Weatherford and husband Bill of Mt. Vernon, son Jack Castle and wife Renee of McKinney, and daughter-in-law Nancy Castle of Greenwood. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Randy Agee, Dan Agee, Tajuana Castle Holt, Jason Weatherford, James Castle and Brenda Rollins, as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
