Martha M. Doub (went by Mattie) was the fifth of eight known children of John Newton Sole Doub (181-1916) (went by Newton) and his first wife, Mary (went by Mamie) Ellen Hauser (1847-1893), who married 18 May 1866 at Forsyth County, North Carolina. After Mamie died, Newton remarried to Amanda Minerva (or Amanda J.?) Cass (c1870-p1920) on 31 Mar 1895 at Yadkin County, North Carolina. It is not known when Amanda died, whether she remarried, or where she is buried. Newton and Amanda were the parents of an additional six known children.

Mattie first married to Alexander G. McBride (1868/1870-1934) on 25 Jun 1898 at Yadkin County, North Carolina. Alexander was admitted to the North Carolina state asylum at Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina just before Christmas in 1899. He died here almost 35 years later, of arteriosclerosis.

Mattie and Alexander divorced at some point, and Mattie remarried to the widower (the fourth of his four known wives) Charles Noah Rothrock (1857-1921) on 16 Sep 1915 at Forsyth County, North Carolina. Mattie and Charles had no known children.

Mattie was the mother of one known child (by Alexander? or out of wedlock?), namely:

1. Newton Sylvanus McBride (1901-1979)

Other sources list a daughter Carolyn McBride (1898-1953). However this is in error, as Edna Carolyn Rothrock was the only known child of Martin Andrew Jackson Rothrock (1870-1922) and Martha Delana Westmoreland (1874-1939).

Links to Mattie's parents, both of her two known husbands (and a cenotaph of her first husband), her only known child and eleven of her thirteen known siblings and half-siblings are included below.
