regarding Maria's husband Francis:
Francis Bates, born in 1800, married Maria Obitts in 1820 and came to Camden in 1835.
He settled on the Blackwell farm, which he bought in 1837. In 1842 he bought the Ambrose farm and part of the C.B. Ingersoll farm, but sold both farms in 1854 and removed to Iowa, where he died four years later.
The wife died in 1869.
He was a shoemaker by trade.
Their children, Nelson, Sallie Ann, Justin, Elbirge and William A.
