OBITUARY (with thanks to Mary Ann Pirone with the Aurora (IL) Public Library):
Elijah Updike, aged 67 years, died at 10 o'clock this morning at his home about five miles southeast of Aurora. He had resided many years in the vicinity. The funeral will probably occur from his house Wednesday afternoon" (Aurora Daily Beacon, May 6, 1895, p. 5).

With many thanks to Cornelia Andrus for forwarding the following information (January, 2004) regarding Elijah A. Updike's MOTHER'S family: From: "The Whitney Family of Connecticut" by Stephen Whitney Phoenix:

Joel Newbury Whitney, b. at Pawling, N. Y., 11 Nov. 1808; a farmer and, for five years, a teacher; married, 30 Oct 1838, at her father's house in Orange, N. Y., by Elder Hall, Baptist, to Caroline Andrews, who was born at Ballston, N. Y., seven miles south-east of the spa, 7 Oct. 1819, dau. of Orrin and Martha (Hooper) Andrews, and g. dau. of Col. Lawrence and Caroline (Hoos) Hooper, and of Zenas Andrews, a soldier in the Revolutionary War. They were still living, in Feb. 1875, at Enfield, N. Y., where he settled with his father, in Oct 1817.

The Updike farm' near Oswego, Kendall Co, Illinois where all his children were born. It is about six miles from Aurora, and four miles east-northeast of Oswego. The entire record is on microfilm and is available at LDS Family History Centers. I received this information from Elmer Dickson in California.

WOLF'S CROSSING: Aug. 9, 1999 Elmer Dickson wrote:

"Wolf's Crossing is located in section 12 Oswego Twp It is the point where what was formerly Wolf's Crossing Road crosses the Elgin, Joliet, and Eastern Railroad track in Oswego Twp The road is now called Wolf Road. The crossing is quite close to the Kendall-Will Co line."
