Pat W. Lester, 95, of Laurel, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 12, 2009. He passed away at home surrounded by his family. He was in the care of Comfort Care Hospice and Home Instead.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 15, at Memory Chapel with interment in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Dr. Randy Turner of First Baptist Church will officiate the services.Pat was born in Commerce, Ga., on August 21, 1913, to Ethel and William Lester. He was a veteran of World War II, serving stateside in Denver, Colo., in the United States Army Air Corps. He met and married Mary Sue Thornton on November 7, 1936, in Meridian, Miss. They moved to Laurel in 1940. He retired from Gulf Oil Company where he worked as an accountant in 1972. Survivors include his loving wife of 72 years, Mary Sue Thornton Lester of Laurel; sons, Thomas W. Lester of Laurel, and Michael T. Lester of Hattiesburg; granddaughter, Meagan Tommes of Newman, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be men of the church. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Pickering's Sunday School Class.
