Gasper G. Urban, 75, St. Augustine, died May 17, 1998, at the Ponce de Leon Care Center.

He was born in Lynn, Mass., and he was a winter resident of St. Augustine for 10 years prior to moving here permanently in 1995. He was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, and he received a scholarship to play football at the University of Notre Dame, where he played under coach Frank Leahy, and the team went on to win three national championships. After graduating from Notre Dame, he played professional football with the Chicago Rockets.

After his football career, he worked in the motion picture distribution industry for various companies before retiring. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict, and he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps with the rank of captain. He was a past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, Marblehead, Mass., he was a member of the Notre Dame Alumni, the Monogram Club at Notre Dame, and he was of the Catholic faith.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Craig Funeral Home. Flowers are gratefully declined, and those wishing may make a contribution, in his memory, to the Children's Hospital, Attn. Mary Murphy, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, Mass. 02115.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche Urban, St. Augustine; a daughter, Elaine Urban, Woodland Hills, Calif.; two sons, Alan Urban, Littleton, N.H., Steven Urban, Wilmette, Ill.; and six grandchildren.
