BURCH O. FENSTEMAKER 1921-2009
FULLERTON - Burch O. Fenstemaker, 88, of Fullerton died Tuesday, Aug. 11,2009, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Jim Hackel will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery with military rites by the Fullerton American Legion Post 151.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.
Mr. Fenstemaker was born July 3, 1921, at Bellwood to Clarence and Adaline (Burch) Fenstemaker.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christie Mitchell.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Doris; two daughters and a son-in-law, Connie and Donald Pettingill of Hastings and Cheryl Fenstemaker and fiancé, Rick Hoffbauer of Columbus; and a sister, Margaret Peden of Santa Maria, Calif.
Additional survivors include five grandchildren, Christopher Mitchell, Daniel Mitchell, Sarah Mitchell, Preston Sunnenberg and Paul Sunnenberg,
He grew up and attended country School and Bellwood High School graduating in 1941. He farmed with his father on the family farm near Bellwood. He served in the United States Navy from 1943 during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. On Jan. 19, 1947, he married Doris Sonderup at Augustina Lutheran Church in Genoa. They made their home in Lincoln and worked for Western Electric. He then attended Milford Trade School where he studied mechanics. After graduating from Milford they returned to the Genoa and Fullerton area in 1952 where he continued to farm as well as at the family farm in Bellwood.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fullerton.
He enjoyed gardening, mechanical and electrical work on the farm, fishing and camping.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Daniel Fenstemaker and a brother, Marvin Fenstemaker.
