Leonard Miller was the son of Adam Bohall of Maryland, New York and Elizabeth "Betsey" Ann Siples of Cortland, New York.

Leonard gew up in Yates County, between living in Torrey and Benton. He had several siblings. They were Catherine, Leonard, Michael, Charles S., Adeline and Helen.

Leonard was a day laborer and farmer by occupation.

He was married he first time on the 5th of January, 1857, to a Miss Charlotte Kidder. The couple had 2 daughters together. Their oldest daughter, Eva, was born in 1857, and died in as a child, on the 24th of June, 1862 in Torrey, New York. The couples second daughter, Emiline, was born around 1858, and she, I believe, also died sometime in 1862, or before 1865.

Leonard's wife Charlotte, I believe, died before Leonard entered the military in the Civil War, also in 1862. I can find a military record, later crossed out, from the 25th of June, 1863, listing all of he men eligible to serve in the military for the Livingston, Ontario and Yates Counties. It lists Leonard, and a marital status as widowed. It was later crossed out because Leonard was already enlisted in the military, 148th Regiment of the New York Voluntary Infantry, since 14th of September, 1862. He enlisted as a private, with the Union side, and was wounded in he line of duty on the 22nd of Jun, 1864, in Petersburg, Virginia. Leonard survived the war and was discharged after he was wounded, and mustered or on the 4th of April, 1865, at New York Harbor. He held the rank of second Sergeant.

By the 13th of June, 1865, Leonard had returned home, to his parent's place of residence, in Torrey, New York. The 1865 census lists him at 30 years old, with the occupation of a farmer, and along with his father, listed as owner of land. It also states that Leonard is a widower, and had been enlisted in the Army prior to the Census.

It is said that sometime relatively soon after he was honorably discharged from the military, that Leonard moved to Bear Lake, Michigan.

On the 2nd of October, 1875, Leonard married for the second time on a Mrs. Agnes L McGinley, otherwise known by a maiden name of Agnes Lydia Crawford, in Bear Lake.

I can find a hospital death record that appears to say Leonard died on the 7th of October, 1875, of typhoid fever; however, since most every other record I can find lists his date of death of the 18th of October, 1875, I have listed that as his date of death. Leonard was therefore only married a short, short amount of time, just a little over 2 weeks.

The death records do list Leonard as married, with an age at death of 39 years, 1 month and 20 days. He still had the occupation of farmer and it lists his parent's as Adam and Betsey Bohall, who's residence was that of New York.

This is his 1875 obituary from a Yates County,New York newspaper says: "Died at Bear Lake, Michigan, October 18, 1875, of typhoid fever, Mr. Leonard M. Bohall, aged forty years. He was formerly a resident of Torrey in this county, and was a sergeant of Company I, 148th New York Volunteers under Captain Hicks. He was wounded at Petersburg, Virginia in June 1864, and was honorably discharged from the service in April 1865, on account of his wound. He was a good soldier and a genial comrade."

Leonard was born in West Dresden, New York (Yates County) on August 31, 1835 to Adam Bohall and Elizabeth (Betsy) Siple. He moved to Bear Lake, Michigan soon after the end of the civil war followed by several of his immediate family members including Michael Bohall a brother who was several years younger. Leonard was married to Charlotte Kidder, on January 5th of 1857, who died before he moved to Bear Lake. He had two children, one named Emily.
