Although his gravestone says Richard died at the age of 85 (indicating that he was born in or around 1665), his baptismal record in Danbury parish, County Essex, England, shows he was baptised as an infant in 1674:
"1674. Richard Spilman the son of Richard & Alice his wife Bapt: March: 7. 1674."
Consequently, Richard actually died at the age of 76, not 85. (Richard's father Richard had died at about the age of 80 in Danbury, Essex, in mid-April 1718.)
