Wallace Mifflin was flight engineer of an A-26 Invader bomber from Barksdale Field, Louisiana, that crashed into a housing project for war workers after getting caught in fog after an initial approach to the Portland (Maine) Airport. The crash killed 19 people, including Mifflin and his pilot, Lt. Philip I. Russell.
