Burnsville - Claude J. Silvers, 82, of Ivy Street, Burnsville, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, in Yancey Nursing Center.

A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Loranzie and Stella McMahan Silvers. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by a son, Jim Silvers, who died in 1994. He was a retired carpenter.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys Wheeler Silvers; two daughters, Carole Pate of Burnsville and Lisa Autrey of Marion; two sons, Marty Silvers of Green Mountain and Mike Silvers of the home; two granddaughters, Mandy and Nicky Silvers; two grandsons, Todd Fox and Zackery Autrey; great-grandson, Conner J. Fox; brother, Glen Silvers of Hendersonville; sister, Helen Kanupp of Skyland; half-brother, Gene Silvers of Hendersonville; and stepbrother, Ed Birchfield of Hendersonville.

The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. The Rev. Bud Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Eddie McMahan Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
