Our loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend, Marden Joseph Stone, age 84, of Scipio, passed away peacefully in the mountains where he was raised on August 5, 2009.

He was born March 31, 1925 in Scipio, a son of George Vernitt and Roxie Esklund Stone.

He served his country in the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS Reynolds and was honorably discharged to return home to the valley that he loved so dearly. He married Claris Mable Despain on September 12, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Marden worked diligently as a lineman for Utah Power and Light for 33 years in order to support his lifelong dream of ranching on his family homestead. He was a member of the LDS Church. He loved horses, and was an avid riding club member and raced quarter horses all over the western United States. He enjoyed spending time with his family and instilled his knowledge and love of horses in each of his grandchildren.

Mard is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Claris Stone of Scipio; his four children: Marlene Bemis of Salt Lake City, LuJean and Chan Memmott, Joseph and Stephanie Stone, all of Scipio; Vickie and Garth Broderick of Riverton; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Loene Peterson of Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Roxie Stone; his sisters: Neva Gwynn, Wanda Myamoto; his brother, Keith Stone; a grandson, Clint Christensen; and a great-granddaughter, Justine Memmott.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 12 Noon in the Scipio Ward Chapel, where friends may call for a viewing on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the services.
Burial with Full Military Honors accorded by the Fillmore Unit of the Utah National Guard and the Fillmore American Legion Post #61, will be in the Scipio Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
