Mary Ellen Doty Barkhurst, daughter of James and Catherine Doty, was born near Atalissa, Cedar county, Iowa, Nov. 15, 1853, and passed away from this life July 7, 1926 at 5:15 p.m. at the home of her daughter Mrs. Harry P. Mattison, near West Branch, aged 72 years, 7 months and 4 days.

On May 31 she was stricken with crysiplas, from which she failed to recover, owing in her weakened condition, due to an illness of many years.

She leaves to mourn her loss, two brothers, Charles and James Doty, of Pasadena, Los Angeles Co., Calif., and three children, Mrs. Harry P. Mattison of West Branch, Iowa; Mrs. Thos. Nephew, of Tipton, Iowa; Walter B. Barkhurst, of Atalissa, Iowa; and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Barkhurst has been a lifelong member of the Bethel Baptist church where she was a church member.

Funeral services were held at the H.P. Mattison home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. W.H. Wilson of Muscatine, officiating. Interment was made in the West Branch Cem..
