As a young man, Henry sailed the world in 1907 with the Great White Fleet, a fleet of 16 battleships carrying 14000 sailors. It was an impressive show of American naval power and American pride. Henry served on the Illinois. He later worked as a machinist at the Navy yard in Washington, DC before returning to Illinois, where he married Minnie Hoffman. Sadly, she died in childbirth with their forth child. His second wife, Mabel, was Leroy Trogg's mother-in-law.
