He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.
LCpl Hill was killed by an explosion during operations in Garmsir area, Helmand province.
Aged 20, from Clifton in Nottingham. From the age of 13, he wanted to join the military and started with the Army Cadet Force. He completed infantry basic training in Catterick and joined the regiment at age 17 in 2006. After a completing a jungle training exercise in Belize, and passing the Assault Pioneer Course, he served his first tour of Afghanistan in 2007 and quickly gained promotion to lance corporal at age 19.
LCpl Hill is remembered as a brave and tough soldier, a true leader in the making. He was also a talented footballer who regularly played for battalion teams and was an ardent of fan of Nottingham Forest FC.
He is survived by his father Daryl Mitchell, mother and stepfather, Vicki and John Holmes, brothers Aaron, Liam and Joshua (Mitchell) and other family members.
The funeral took place with full military honours at the Holy Trinity Church in Clifton on June 12, 2009.
