He was born March 21, 1932, in Plevna, to Leo L. and Lola V. Luellen Schnurr.
He graduated in 1950 from Hutchinson High School. A resident of Hutchinson, he had worked for Carey Salt until 1953. In 1955, he joined the IBEW Union and was a journeyman electrician for 27 years. In 1983, he was a carpenter for Hutchinson Community College until retiring in 1994.
He received the John W. Jenner Award for the Outstanding Electrical Apprentice of the State of Kansas in 1958.
On June 29, 1951, he married Donna F. Cotrell in Hutchinson. She died June 24, 2005. Survivors include: two daughters, Debra F. Gee, Burleson, Texas, and Sheri J. Goolsby and husband Wade, New Braunfels, Texas; a sister, Marjorie Knauer, Hutchinson; and a grandson, Colten Sims, Forth Worth, Texas.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Schnurr, and a sister, Donna Belle Wright.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 12, 2009, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Dr. Kim Biery presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at the mortuary. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.
