John E. Howard, 60 of 606 W. Meek St., Abingdon died at 11:05 am Thursday, August 6, 2009 at his home.
He was born on December 7, 1948 in Galesburg, IL, the son of H. Eugene and Betty M. (Abel) Howard. He married Diane Fields at the Abingdon Christian Church in 1967.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John is survived by three sons, Johnny (Angela Melcher) Howard of Moline, IL, Justin (and Laura) Howard of Canton, IL and Brad (and Emily) Howard of Kuwait City, Kuwait; 1 granddaughter, Aimee Kalb; two brothers, Rickie (and Donna) Howard of Aurora, IL and W. Leon Howard of Galesburg; a sister, Sharen (and Eric) Swanson of London Mills, and his good friend, Carol McMillan.
He graduated from Abingdon High School. He retired from the Admiral/Maytag factory in Galesburg, where he worked for 30 years. John enjoyed music, cars and Chicago Bear football.
Cremation was accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, August 24, 2009 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
