Notes per family history by Gulia Sanders:
Sanders was spelled "Saunders" until the family came to America. They left England with the Oglethorpe Expedition who were looking for religious freedom in 1732. They settled in Georgia. Ancestors are from Scotland, Netherlands and England.
They moved to Tennessee where Richard Bem was born. He was a farmer. Old family story that he had a brother who came to California in the Gold Rush and they never heard from him again. Also stories of family members fighting against each other in Civil War.
Moved to Illinois and farmed.
Son Byron passed on a story about Richard Bem. They lived on a hill and were moving to a lower place. It was winter time and the ground was covered with snow and ice. The only was he could move his big Seth Thomas clock without breaking it was to sit down, hold the clock in his arms and slide down the slope.
Moved (by train) to Hunt County Texas. Moved in 1900 to Bowie County, Texas. Moved to Creek County, Indian Territory.
