James Chapmond, 63, of Amarillo died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with Kurtis Spidel, pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Idalou Cemetery.
James died on Aug. 8, 2009, while recouping at his daughter's home in Amarillo after a recent hospitalization.
Mr. Chapmond was born Oct. 3, 1945, in Poteau, Okla., to the late G.L. Chapmond and Altie Hamblin Chapmond. He attended Central View and Duke public schools.
James worked in metal building fabrication and construction. He resided 20 years in Lubbock before moving to Illinois and then to Oklahoma.
We will miss his humor and beautiful blue eyes.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Chapmond; a son, James Chapmond; his parents; and a brother, Estell Chapmond.
Survivors include three daughters, Jaimee Tindall and husband David of Amarillo and Jasmine and Julia Chapmond, both of Galena, Ill.; two brothers, Lonzo Chapmond of Sayre, Okla., and Johnny Chapmond of Mangum, Okla.; a sister, Beverly Taylor and husband Robert of Granite, Okla.; two grandchildren, Kennedy and Chelsea Chapmond; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family suggests memorials be to Salvation Army, 400 S. Harrison St., Amarillo, TX 79101-1442.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
