Horace Clellon Asay, 81, a retired Shelbyville barber; died Saturday at King's Daughters Hospital. He was the father of Mrs. Lewis Burt and Kenneth "Bobby Jack" Asay, both of Louisville.

Horace Clellon Asay Sr., 81, long a well-known barber of Shelbyville, died at 8:15 a.m. Saturday at the King's Daughters Hospital following a long illness. He had been at the hospital fourteen days. Mr. Asay resided at Third and Washington Streets. Mr. Asay was born in Spencer County, the son of William Donald and Mary Bohannon Asay, members of well-known families. He had made his home in Shelbyville for many years where he owned a barbershop at one time and on numerous occasions had worked in other Shelbyville shops. Mr. Asay was a member of the First Christian Church. Honorable and upright in all his business dealings, he was a man of the highest integrity and none knew Mr. Asay but to honor and respect him. He had a host of friends throughout the county. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Viola Shawhan Asay, four daughters, Mrs. Lettie Griffin, Simpsonville, Mrs. Louis Burt, Louisville, Mrs. Clark Brown, Livingston; and Mrs. William Carter, Shelbyville; three sons, Donald M. Asay, Lexington; Horace C. Assay Jr., Shelbyville, and Kenneth (Bobby Jack) Asay, Louisville, sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday from Shannon Funeral Home by the Rev. J. Edward Cayce. Burial followed in Grove Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were William D. Crane, Sid Hackett, Walter Jackson, L. C. Marshall, W. Calvin Beard and George Pilcher.
