He was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, the former Agnes Messmer; three sons, Thomas J. Kruer of Campbellsburg, Stephen L. Kruer of Georgetown and David G. Kruer of New Albany; three daughters, JoAnne Kochert of Palmyra, Dorothy K. Rose of Troy, Mich., and Helen M. Ott of Georgetown; four brothers, Leo G. of Louisville, Raymond of Starlight, Edmund and John Kruer of New Albany; four sisters, Dorothy Friedes of Maryland, Agnes D. Book of Starlight, Bertha Hoehn of Bradford and Sister Mary Ann Kruer of Beech Grove; and 14 grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation at Kraft Funeral Home will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Prayer service will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
