Evelyn O. Erekson, 80, 704 Washington St., died at 1:40 p.m. Monday in Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, of injuries suffered about three hours earlier in a two-car collision in northeastern Allen County (story on page one).
She was born on October 12, 1909 in Murray, Utah to Charles and Emma Hjart Olson and married Reid B. Erekson on November 21, 1929. He suffered serious injuries in the same accident and is in critical condition in Parkview's intensive care nit.
She was a member of the Decatur Shakespeare Club and Tri Kappa Sorority and a former member of the Research Club in Decatur.
In 1942, she and her husband moved from Minnesota, where she was active in theater productions at the University of Minnesota, to Fort Wayne as Reid became director of Fort Wayne's Civic Theater. She was also active in the Civic Theater and won the first Tony award for a leading role in a Civic Theater production.
The Ereksons moved to Decatur in 1950 and continued their theater activities locally. Mrs. Erekson was active in Bellmont Theater as an actress and did many dramatic readings to a number of northern Indiana civic and social groups. She was also active in the Wagon Wheel productions at Warsaw, formerly did radio and television programs in Fort Wayne, and worked at the Decatur Public Library for many years.
