OBITUARY: LT. ROY N. ZEIGER
SAWYER, July 20--Mr. and Mrs. H.S. Zeiger will attend funeral services for their son, 2nd Lt. Roy N. Zeiger, U.S. Bomber pilot who was killed in action over Yugoslavia June 14, 1944.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Jefferson Barracks National cemetery, St. Louis, Mo., according to a telegram received from Louis B. Hellmeyer, superintendent of the cemetery.
Lt. Zeiger enlisted May 30, 1940, before the outbreak of war. For three years he was an instructor in the Armed Force school at Fort Knox, Ky. He received his commission as a graduate of the Army Air corps at Stuttgart Field, Ark., in November of 1943. After taking special training at Lakeland and Tampa, Fla., he was assigned overseas in April, 1944, and attached to the Mediterranean Air Command.
Posthumous award of the Air Medal was made to Lt. Zeiger's widow, Mrs. Grace B. Zeiger, now of Louisville, Ky., at Creekville, Ky., at Bowman Field, Ky., at ceremonies conducted there. The presentation was made by Col. Perry E. Griffith, commanding officer of the post. The medal was awarded for exploits with the 15th AAF.
Lt. Zeiger's parents and his sister-in-law, Mrs. Rex Zeiger, were also present at the presentation ceremonies.
