Mrs. Alice Agnes Bates died at 5:20 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home a mile east and a mile south of Tolono, following a short illness due to complications.
Alice Agnes Donovan was born April 18, 1873, in Kilkenny, Ireland, and came to America at the age of 16 years, locating in Peoria.
She was married on Feb. 22, 1900, to Edward Bates of Tolono, and since that time had lived on the Bates farm in that village. She was widely known in this county. Mrs. Bates was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic church of Tolono and active in the Altar society of that parish.
Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Leo O'Neill, 508 South Russell Street, Champaign, and two sons, Frank, Tolono, and William at home. There are also four grandchildren and two brothers, Andrew and Donovan of Peoria.
The funeral will be conducted from the Holy Cross Catholic church at 9:30 o'clock Wednesday morning. Rev. Father E. C. Leonard of the Tolono church, will officiate. Burial will be made in St. Patrick's cemetery, Tolono.
