He entered the millitary on December 19, 1942 in Providence, Rhode Island.

Byron J. Ellis, 88, of Scituate, died Nov. 3 at Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center, Providence. He was the husband of the late Isabel C. (Malachowski) Ellis.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John D. and Mary (Pimentel) Ellis.
Mr. Ellis was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the 7th Army Division, 203rd Anti-Aircraft Battalion during World War II. He was taken as a prisoner of war (POW) during the Battle of the Bulge and released at the end of the war. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his service.
Prior to WWII, Mr. Ellis worked for various tool makers, including Brown & Sharpe and Pratt and Whitney. After returning home, he was a self-employed salesman, owning Ellis Home Supply Company until he retired in 1997 in his early eighties.
Active in the community, he was a former past president of the Scituate Rotary Club and a member of the North Scituate Fire Department. He was a member of the VFW, Post 19 in Scituate and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Scituate.
Mr. Ellis enjoyed attending senior citizen events and dining with fellow seniors in Scituate.
He leaves two sons, a sister, and four grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Doris Norton.
