Mary Ellen "Mollie" Piercy was born in 1857 in Linville Falls, Burke County, North Carolina, the daughter of Zechariah Piercy and Sarah Elvira Pyatte.

She married Carmine Sevier Bird in Yancey County, North Carolina in 1884. They were living in Titusville, Florida in 1891, and they moved to south Florida in 1892. They established a homestead on a 160-acre tract and built a home on the site which became the Biltmore County Club in Coral Gables. Mollie and Carmine were the 9th family to homestead in Coral Gables.

Carmine claimed the SW ¼ of 18-54-41 8 Aug 1891. Carmine died in 1893 at the age of 49, and Mary filed for final commutation of the land 26 Oct 1896 and patented it 7 Jun 1897. That quarter section is bounded by Bird Road on the south, 57th Avenue on the west, Anastasia/San Rafael Avenues on the north and Granada Blvd. on the east.

Mollie married Charles Alexis Green 13 Dec 1896 at her residence. Charles Green was a carpenter and built a number of houses in Coconut Grove. Mollie and Charles were living in Dade County for the 1900 and 1910 census enumerations. Mollie sued Charles in 1923 for divorce charging desertion.

Mollie died in 1937 at the age of 79. She left her Coral Gables real estate to Annie Robarts Mattox and the residue of her estate to her niece, Mary Etta Horton Bradshaw of Erwin, Unicoi County, Tennessee.
