Mr. Goodwin was born January 7, 1922 in Pine Bluff, AR to Newton Ashford and Alma Hightower Goodwin and passed away February 12, 2009 in Shreveport, LA. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, served his country as a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force and retired from Cotton Belt Railroad as a claims/freight agent after 27 years of service. He was also a member of the VFW Post 4588 and American Legion Post #14.
His parents, a brother, Foster Ashford Goodwin, son, John Howard Edmiston, and daughter, Julia Faye Alexander preceded him in death.
Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Mae O'Dessie Goodwin of Bossier City, LA; sons, Leroy Goodwin of Amarillo, TX, Terrel Goodwin of Bossier City, LA; daughter, Doris Goodwin of Shreveport, LA; daughter-in-law, Jeanette Edmiston; son-in-law, Ronnie Alexander; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Russell as pallbearers will be grandsons, Russell Goodwin, Kenny Harvey, Ronnie Alexander, Bobby Edmiston, Bill Edmiston and great-grandson, Chris Vance. Honorary pallbearer will be Cecil Biggers. The family requests memorials are made to the Willis Knighton Cancer Center or Asbury United Methodist Church.
