Services for Russell Goodwin, 87, will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2009 at Rose-Neath's Bossier Chapel, with Rev. Scott Adams, pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church, officiating, assisted by Rev. H.L. Kendrick. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Cemetery, Haughton, LA. "Military Rites will be conducted by the 12th District, Dept. of LA, Veterans of Foreign Wars - HONOR GUARD." Visitation will be Sunday, February 15, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City, LA.

Mr. Goodwin was born January 7, 1922 in Pine Bluff, AR to Newton Ashford and Alma Hightower Goodwin and passed away February 12, 2009 in Shreveport, LA. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, served his country as a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force and retired from Cotton Belt Railroad as a claims/freight agent after 27 years of service. He was also a member of the VFW Post 4588 and American Legion Post #14.

His parents, a brother, Foster Ashford Goodwin, son, John Howard Edmiston, and daughter, Julia Faye Alexander preceded him in death.

Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Mae O'Dessie Goodwin of Bossier City, LA; sons, Leroy Goodwin of Amarillo, TX, Terrel Goodwin of Bossier City, LA; daughter, Doris Goodwin of Shreveport, LA; daughter-in-law, Jeanette Edmiston; son-in-law, Ronnie Alexander; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honoring Russell as pallbearers will be grandsons, Russell Goodwin, Kenny Harvey, Ronnie Alexander, Bobby Edmiston, Bill Edmiston and great-grandson, Chris Vance. Honorary pallbearer will be Cecil Biggers. The family requests memorials are made to the Willis Knighton Cancer Center or Asbury United Methodist Church.
