After an extended illness, Mr James Thomas Carithers, aged 74 years, died at an early hour Sunday morning [April 15]. Funeral services were conducted from Bernstein Bros. funeral chapel, Athens, at 1 o'clock on Monday afternoon, April 16th, by Rev T W Tippett, pastor of Prince Ave Baptist Curch. Interment was at Comer Cemetery.
The pall bearers were Messers J N B Thompson, W F Davis, Ben Smith, R M Jetton, W C Groves and Gerald Birchmore.
Mr Carithers is survived by his wife, Parmelia Jane Carithers and four sons: Messers A C, C C, J T, Mark L Carithers; and by four sisters, Mrs H L Seagraves, Mrs Joe Saye, Mrs Tom Baker and Mrs Jim Jarrell; one brother, Mr W W Carithers; also by the following grandchildren, nieces and nepews: Mrs F M Lail, Mr Allen Carithers, Mr Dorsey Carithers, Mr Fred Carithers, Miss Idamile Carithers, Miss Willein Carithers, Mr Harry Carithers, Mr J T Carithers, Jr, Miss May Carithers, Mr Elmer Carithers, Mr Woodrow Carithers, Mr Mack Carithers, Master Carroll Carithers, G W Carithers, Mr N H Carithers, Mrs Sebe Landers, Mr Brant Lord, Mr Fred Segraves, Mr Len H Segraves, Mrs Mark H Hansford, Miss Clelia Segraves, Mrs Ruark, Mrs Henry Juhlin, Mrs Emery Herring, Mrs Newt Smith, Miss Macey Saye, Mr Grover Baker, Mr Jim Baker, Mr Earnest Baker.
