JOHN MANGELS

John W. Mangels, 85, a retired Scott county farmer, died at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in the home of his son, George, four miles east of Long Grove, Ia. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Runge chapel. Burial will be in the Walcott cemetery.

Mr. Mangels was born April 3. 1858, in Blue Grass township and on Dec. 31, 1885, was married to Bertha Witt. She preceded him in death in May 15, 1926. The couple farmed for 26 years three miles northeast of Blue Grass and later farmed three and a half miles southeast of Walcott. In 1922 they retired to make his home in Walcott, and in 1939 Mr. Mangels moved to the home of his son.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Theodore Stock of Wilton Junction and Mrs. Herman Steffen, R.R. No. 4, Davenport; three sons, Rudolph of Toledo, Ohio, George of Long Grove and Bernhard of Davenport; a sister, Mrs. Emma Peckensnieder of Plain View; two brothers, Charles of Eldridge, and Albert of Mitchell, S.D.; 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
