Bela Howard was a private in Capt. Josiah Hayden's company, Col. Bailey's regiment; was a minute man, marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775; in service four days; was also in Capt. Nathan Packard's company, Col Edward Mitchell's regiment; five days' service; also served in Capt. James Allen's company, Col. Simeon Cary's regiment; also served eleven days in Capt. David Packard's company, Col. Eliphalet Cary's regiment.

Bela Howard married Mehitable Cary on November 28, 1782 in North Bridgewater, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts. They were the parents of one child.
