Bertha was born to Mary "Josie" Josephine nee Hernstine and William A. Bitter. She had two siblings-Elmer and Gladys. She lived her entire life with her parents until their deaths with the remainder of her life spent in Stoughton. She was preceded in death by her siblings and parents. She never married. The only known family survivor was her brother's wife Adah and Adah's daughter Lois Gilman and cousins. She rests eternally in peace.
