Leading attorney of Groveton and Trinity County, Ex-County Judge, Ex-County Attorney & Attorney for the First National Bank. Educated in Trinity County Schools and Sam Houston Normal Institute, Huntsville, he began teaching in Trinity and Houston Counties and served as principal of the Groveton Schools for 4 years during which time he studied law, his preceptor in law being the able lawyer, Captain Stevenon. He was admitted to the bar in 1897 and opened his law office in 1909, he is said to have had the 2nd largest law library in the district and was known to have held court with a 6 shooter in his desk drawer. He was a member of the Trinity County Bar Association, State Bar Association, Knights of Pythias and Groveton and as Secretary of the School Board.
