Cause of death: Uremia

"George W Stetson, seventy three, died at his home, 717 Coit yesterday. He had been a resident of this city for the last ten years coming from Pennsylvania. He served two years with the Ten Michigan Cavalry. Funeral services will be held at the residence at ten o'clock with interment in Fairplains cemetery."

George W Stetson was the son of Saunders & Elizabeth (Lott) Stetson of North East, Erie Co, PA. He is a descendent of early colonial settler Cornet Robert Stetson of Norwell, MA. Descendency is as follows: (George, Saunders, Thomas, Thomas, Cornelius, Isaac, Robert, Cornet Robert) "Cornet" was an honorary title bestowed by the colonial militia on a humble immigrant who lacked nobility and military experience, but who contributed significantly to the early defense of the MA colonies and its government.
