Barbara Jane Bailey Brown, 81, our loving mother, grandma, sister, and friend, passed away on August 3, 2009. She resided at 8124 South Jackson Street (250 West) in Midvale, Utah at the time of her death.


She was born October 6, 1927 in Burley, Idaho to Henry Jones and Laura Christina Pratt Bailey.


Barbara graduated from Glendale High School in Glendale, California. While attending BYU she met and married Merril E. Brown on August 17, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.


Barbara's life was dedicated to her husband, children, grandchildren, sisters, and brothers. She was co-owner of Browns Shoes in Midvale, Utah. She worked side by side with her husband Merril, in the store for 35 years. She loved life and people.


Barbara was active in various civic organizations, including Midvale Ladies Guild, Utah Heritage Foundation, Utah Chapter of the California Club, and Hostess at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. She loved her church and was active in various positions. Mom loved to travel and was an advocate of the Arts, Theatre, Ballet, and Opera. Even though she was a transplanted Californian, she loved living in Utah.


Survivors: children, Becky Brown, Nauvoo, Illinois; Marc Merril Brown, Midvale; grandchildren, Jennifer Leila Brown, Jesse Lee Brown, Jeremy Jason Brown; great-grandchild-ren Gracie and Kaiser Gerrard; sisters and brother, Donna Hannah Everton, Norma LaVon Gibby, Betty Rae Gibby, Gerald H. Bailey. Preceded in death by her husband, Merril; sisters and brothers, Selma Jackson Elson, Marva Laura Elson, Glenn Jackson, Ralph Jackson, Bert Jackson.


Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Midvale Sixth Ward Chapel, 8171 South Jackson Street (250 West) Friends may call at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street, on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and on Monday at the Church from 9:45-10:45 a.m.
Interment: Utah Veteran's Memorial Park.
