He was the son of Flemming Mayes/Maze/Mays Hancock Co. Tn.

Served in the U.A. Army and served through the Mexican War,then served in the Civil War and reenlisted in 1860.Moved from Tennessee to Kansas in 1866 and remained there until his death.His son Franklin remained in TN. and
is buried at Clinch River Cemetery in Anderson County.Franklin's son Lee moved to Kansas with his grandfather Thomas when he was a young boy and is buried at the same cemetery as Thomas.
