Emily Gist was the dau of James Gist (1829-1919) and Catherine "Kitty" Nottle (1829-1918). Emily's parents emigrated from Cornwall County, England in 1865 and settled in Pennsylvania. It is unknown where Emily's parents are buried.

Emily Gist married Samuel Elmer Feese, Sr., on 5 July 1886 in Kansas. They had eleven children. Emily and Samuel divorced ca 1925 and Samuel Feese, Sr., remarried. Emily remained single until her death.
