Arlt: ( b. Nov 23, 1911, d. Nov 22, 1996) "Funeral services for Harry Arlt, a native of the Packard area and a long-time resident of Ritzville and Spokane, were held on Tuesday, Nov 26, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Ritzville. Mr. Arlt died one day before his 85th birthday, on Nov 22, 1996, at the Terrace Heights Care Center in Moses Lake. He was born at Packard on Nov 23, 1911, the son of William A. Arlt, Jr., and Elizabeth Schwerin Arlt. He attended a country school near Packard and later Ritzville High School, from which he was graduated in 1930. Following graduation, he worked at the Packard Grain Elevator. He married Verna Amen on Nov 26, 1933, in Ritzville. They lived and farmed between Ritzville and Odessa. Harry retired from farming in 1982, and for a time the couple lived in Ritzville and Spokane. They took permanent resident in their apartment in Spokane in 1988. In August of that year, they moved to Moses Lake to be closer to their daughter and family. Verna preceded him in death unexpectedly on Aug 31. Having broken a hip in a fall, Harry had spent the past three months in the Terrace Heights Care center in Moses Lake. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Spokane, past member of the Emanuel Lutheran in Ritzville, a member of the WA Wheat Growers Assn, an officer and former board member of the Big Bend Electric Co-op, past secretary of the Marcellus Elevator and a member of the Spokane Elks and the Moose Lodge. He is survived by three daughters, Patty Fode and her husband, Roy, of Moses Lake; Peggy Simmonds and her husband, Fred, of Carmichael, CA; and Karen Thiel and her husband, Lamar, of Ritzville; one son, Dennis Arlt, of Anchorage, Alaska; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Heimbigner, of Ephrata; and one brother, Lawrence Arlt, of Ritzville. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Dora Schroeder, Agnes Arlt and Alice Vostral. Officiating at the funeral was the Rev John Finstuen, of Spokane. Interment followed at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements." (Odessa Record: 11-28-1996)
