Arlt: ( b. Mar 16, 1896, d. Mar 21, 1945) "Arthur Arlt, 49, Ritzville resident and pioneer farmer of the southwest area, was killed about 4:45 Tuesday morning when the car he was driving left a straight stretch of road on the main highway 22 miles west of Ritzville and plunged over a 30-foot embankment. Arlt operated a farm near the Schrag area 27 miles from Ritzville but lived in town. The wreck was discovered by a passing truck driver who notified the state patrol at Ritzville. The officer reported that Arlt's car took out four concrete guard rails and on about 110 feet before it came to a stop. Arlt was thrown clear of the wreckage and is believed to have died instantly. Survivors include his widow and four children at Ritzville; his mother, Anna Arlt, Ritzville; two brothers, Fred of Hartline, and Robert of Schrag; five sisters, Mrs. Herman Sieverkropp of Odessa; Mrs. John Schmidt, Cheney; Mrs. Fred Albershardt and Mrs. Ernest Babcock, both of Spokane; and Mrs. Dave Eckhart of Wilson Creek. A Ritzville report states that funeral services will be held there on Friday." (Odessa Record: 3-22-1945)
