FATAL FALL FROM WAGON
Cairo, Neb., Aug. 16 - A very deplorable accident happened at this place last evening resulting in the death of Thomas Ericksen. Mr. Ericksen and his brother, August, lived on the W. C Robinson place abut three quarters of a mile north of town, neither of them being married. They were both down town during the evening and were about to return home at about 10 o'clock. They were invited by Jay Smith, a farmer living on the Loup bottom to ride with him. . . August Ericksen was in the seat with Smith, while Thomas Ericksen sat in the back end of the wagon with his feet hanging down, the endgate being out. When in front of the residence of A. L. Omer, Thomas Ericksen either slipped or jumped from the wagon. . . falling heavily in the dirt . . . and the injured man was carried into the Omer home and a physician summoned. Mr. Ericksen regained consciousness . . until nearly 1 o'clock when the physician noticed a sudden turn and in a few minutes he was dead. A severe bruise on the back of the head. . .
The deceased was 23 years of age, a sober industrious and exemplary young man. He had been here for the past six months and had acquired an admirable circle of friends. . . Besides his brother, August who lives with him, his brother Fred lives in Cairo, being proprietor of the blacksmith shop. Another brother lives at Boelus, and the parents live north of Dannebrog. The funeral will be held at Dannebrog, it being expected that the remains will be taken there tomorrow morning.
