William was the son of William Branton and Mary Castile. He was married on July 9, 1866 in Galveston, TX. to Emily Augusta Simpton Cabban, widow of Thomas A. Cabban and daughter of John A. Simpton and Jemima Tucker, who were early English immigrants, who settled into Galveston Co., Texas, in the mid-1830's. By 1880, William and Emily had seven children together.
