Funeral services for John D. Beck, 82, of Wills Point, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Rev. Bob Beck and Rev. Don Myers officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery north of Wills Point.

He passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 29, 2009, in a Dallas hospital.

John was born December 14, 1926, in Wills Point, Texas, the son of Henry J. Beck and Ava Jane Burnett Beck. He was raised in Wills Point and graduated from Wills Point High School in 1944. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II. On January 30, 1948, he married Lue Jean Rankin in Dallas. John had been employed by Alford Refrigerated Warehouse in Dallas and later was employed as a stock clerk for E-Systems in Greenville, retiring in 1989. He also was a cattle rancher. John was a fifty year member of Masonic Lodge #928 in Mesquite and a member of the First Baptist Church in Wills Point.

Preceded in death by his parents; two sons, David Joe Beck on February 6, 1968 and Robert Paul Beck on February 13, 2001 and three sisters, Laverne Beck Johnston, Alta Beck Harris and Annie Beck Coates.

John is survived by his wife, Lue Jean Beck, of Wills Point; sister, Carolyn Sue Shell, of Dallas; sister-in-law, Charlyne Sledge & husband, Wayne, of Terrell; brother-in-law, Bob Rankin & wife, Margie, of Las Cruces, New Mexico; nieces, Stefani Curtis, Angela Bailey, Kathy Johnston, Julia Rosol, Trina Davis and Amy Pickett; nephews, Danny Harris, Jeffrey Shell, Don Shell and Maxie Sledge and numerous other relatives.

Pallbearers: Jeffrey Shell, Don Shell, Maxie Sledge, Pat Burnett, Jerry Beck and Tommy Beck

Honorary pallbearers: Tom Hubbard and Weldon Powers

Family will receive friends at the funeral Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
